We have had a busy day here in Aqua. We started our morning with Oliver and Zachary building with Lego. Oliver explained he was making a ladder for the fire engine and then turned it into a flying machine, ‘It’s Blaze’ he said. Zachary shared he was making a boy monster machine. They then moved outside to do some cooking in the sandpit.
The sandpit also saw Freddy and Oliver working together to make a sand house. Oliver explained it has windows and a door too. Freddy shared ‘it has a giraffe inside’.
During mat time, Veronique shared her leaves from the Jacaranda tree for the letter of the week ‘J’.
Gross motor and physical skills
Today we also completed an obstacle course with Nelson, following instructions and jumping with two legs together on to circles or into the hoop. Then trying it with one.
After lunch we practiced our yoga poses and stretched our bodies. We also read our yoga book and practiced our breathing exercises, working on our sense of wellbeing.
Exploring NAIDOC Week
We have continued to explore NAIDOC week, and reinforce colour recognition with handprints of the colours of the Aboriginal flag.
We have looked at stories with ochre, and discussed it’s use. We then crushed chalk to create our own and painted with this. Oliver said he was painting mum and dad with a spider in his house. Eleanor was making pink and Zachary said he was making ochre.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. For children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” – Fred Rogers.
