Today the children started their morning outside. The sandpit is very popular, the children were observed working together as a team. They used their fine motor skills to use shovels to scoop up the sand and then placed the sand into big and small buckets, which they used to feed the animals. The children can manipulate the tools in the sand to use for their imaginary games. Sand play has many benefits, it promotes creativity and imagination through role and developing stories as its great for sensory development.
We all met on the mat to say hello to each other, in many different languages the children say good morning. Bonjour, Buongiorno and Dobro jutro are some of the words we use.
We then had our small group times, where we participated in Bonkers Beat with Tima and Liza. Outside the children used their large muscles and coordination skills with Nelson and Julie by having some physical activities. They used the balance beam to balance and kicked the ball into the goals.
With Donna and Louiese the children talked about the moon, as it’s been 50 years since Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. We spoke about what is on the moon and what colour we think it is. We then got busy and made moon sand which the children loved. They made stars and rocket shapes, but some children just poked it with their fingers, exploring the sensory side. The children also had the opportunity to make their own moon with grey paint.
The letter of the week is ‘’Tt’’ and we had a lovely torch today to share.
We had so much fun exploring both the indoors and outdoors enjoying the lovely warm weather. As it’s getting warmer please can you make sure your children have hats with their name on it.
