We have been really excited to learn about Matariki! We have been engaged in a variety of activities learning about this special celebration. Gail, Sony, and Tima have invited the children to extend their understanding of this cultural celebration! We have looked at books explaining the origin of this celebration and have helped decorate our room to crafts that are related.
We were really excited to see the dinosaurs set up in the sandpit. They had bamboo to eat and this was an extension of our interest in dinosaurs from yesterday’s volcano.
We also loved the pipes in the sandpit because we were able to pretend that we were the builders filling them up with sand. We also liked the sound we heard as the sand moved around.
We read the book “The Magic Hat” where people are changed into animals after the hat lands on their head. Rosanna turned us into our favourite animals using faceprint.
