Happy Monday everyone! The Aqua explorers started this beautiful day with self-selected activities. Some explorers practiced their physical skill in yoga. With Alejandra, the children performed a variety of poses such as the crocodile and butterfly. After yoga, some children were busy at the construction block pretending to be builders. They explored the cognitive concept of cause and effect by hitting the blocks with hammer. Outside, the children explored flower connectors. They investigated these blocks by assembling, pulling apart and looking through them.
Just before learning centre time, the explorers were invited to two literacy group time. Outside with Nelson, the explorers enjoyed some of their favourite stories with Nelson. Inside with Alejandra, they read stories such as ‘Dear zoo’ and ‘Cows in the kitchen’. The explorers were also encouraged to repeat the names of the animals in Spanish. Literacy experiences such as these provided opportunities for children to extend on their cognitive and language skills. To enhance children’s confidence, Lily and Charlotte were encouraged to share their objects from home for the letter of the week. It was great to see the girls telling peers all about their rabbit!
During learning centre time, the explorer kicked off science week by exploring the effect of different ingredients used in playdough making. The children explored the different ingredients with all their senses and were great helpers during the playdough making process. Once the playdough was ready, the children were excited to make pretend cakes and cars with the fresh playdough! The children were invited to explore colours with Alejandra. They were also introduced to the names of colours in Spanish! The explorers were also invited to extend their gross motor skills with Nelson. In this obstacle course the explorers practiced their jumping skill.
The Aqua explorers had so much fun today!
