Today we celebrated Chinese mid-Autumn festival, the children sat with Helena and listened to the story about how families sit together and have food together especially moon cakes. We would thank Emmeline’s Dad and Mom whom were extremely generous and brought moon cakes to Aqua, they said they wanted to celebrate with us the teachers. They were delicious, Thank you so much.
To celebrate the children were invited to make a lantern and a bunny which is the symbol for the festival. After the children wanted to dress up like the bunny, so Liza painted bunnies nose and whiskers for us. We had so much fun celebrating together as one big family in Aqua.
Inside today some of the children played pretend and made moon cakes at the kitchen for each other. It was so nice to hear the children make noises like ‘’mmmmm’’ as they pretend to eat the cake.
At group times we welcomed everyone to school and with Donna, Lily shared her holiday snaps. She went camping and was super excited to share all the wonderful things her family did together. She also brought a Yak to share with us.
We read books, sang songs and spoke about the birds in group time today.
Learning centre time was very busy and the children are learning so many interesting subjects.
With Bambi, the children spoke about letter ‘’C’’ and then made the hungry caterpillar using fine motor skills.
With Nelson the children also used fine motor skills and had to transferred the different objects from one dish to the next. They also watched to see if anything sank in the water and what floated at the top.
With Donna the children have being working so hard on our bird houses, they have been so excited about getting them finished and to hang them in the trees outside, we are almost there, today we made doors for the birds, Donna used a blade and had to be super careful.
After we went on a nature hunt to Crimson and found lots of different leaves, twigs and bark to make our own bird houses on paper. The children enjoyed the activity and are excited to make the food next week to go in the house.
What a fantastic Thursday we had at Aqua.
